PEAK Agitated Pediatric Patient

Upon completion of this module, participants will:

Describe approaches to assessing and identifying clinical features of pediatric agitation in the emergency department;

Understand common underlying causes for pediatric agitation;

Describe “least restrictive” means of intervention for pediatric agitation including non-pharmacological interventions (behavioral de-escalation, calming interventions, and environmental modification);

Understand when the use of pharmacological interventions and physical restraints are indicated for pediatric agitation;
